22 Jan 2018 --- Coca-Cola has pledged to recycle a used bottle or can for every one the company sells by 2030 as well as working towards making all its packaging recyclable, as the soft drinks giant joins a global movement to reduce waste.

ADM pursues agro merger with Bunge

22 Jan 2018 --- US agribusiness Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has approached Bunge about a potential takeover, which could set up a bidding war with Swiss-based rival Glencore Plc. The takeover could combine two of the world's four largest grain trading houses. ADM's approach comes just months after commodities trader Glencore proposed a partnership with Bunge, setting the scene for a bidding war.

French chef Paul Bocuse dies aged 91

22 Jan 2018 --- Michelin-starred chef, Paul Bocuse died in France on Saturday January 20. Bocuse, 91, was one of the leading exponents of the 1970s culinary trend of nouvelle cuisine. Tributes to the man described as “Monsieur Paul” and the “Chef of the century” poured in after his death was announced. French president, Emmanuel Macron, has described Bocuse as “the incarnation of French cuisine.”

Cargill diversifies starches and sweeteners site in Krefeld, Germany

19 Jan 2018 --- Cargill is expanding and diversifying its product portfolio at its starches and sweeteners plant in Krefeld, Germany with products such as vegetable wheat protein, specialized industrial wheat starches and advanced biofuel. Transitioning this site from a corn to wheat processing facility allows Cargill to add these products to its product portfolio and help customers address changing consumer needs in terms of nutrition, packaging and sustainable fuel.

Import of sustainable fruit and veg increases to 70 percent, says SIFAV

19 Jan 2018 --- The volumes of tropical fruit and vegetables, such as bananas, pineapples, green beans and avocados, that are sourced on the basis of meeting social and environmental conditions has risen significantly from 50 percent to 70 percent in one year. This is what has emerged from the 2017 annual monitoring of the Sustainability Initiative Fruit and Vegetables (SIFAV), which aims to make imports of fruits and vegetables from Africa, Asia and South America 100 percent sustainable in 2020.

Pea protein surge: Cargill invests in Puris, the largest North American producer

18 Jan 2018 --- With the rapid rise in consumer demand for plant-based protein, PURIS, the largest North American producer of pea protein, and Cargill have signed a joint venture agreement to accelerate a new wave of “great tasting, sustainable and label-friendly plant-based foods.” The joint venture is closed as of Tuesday (January 16, 2018). Sysco expands European business by acquiring Kent Frozen Foods

17 Jan 2018 --- Sysco Corporation has signed an agreement to acquire Kent Frozen Foods, a UK-based foodservice distributor. The acquisition, which is conditional upon approval from the Competition and Markets Authority, will see Kent Frozen Foods join Sysco’s other UK businesses, including Brakes, Fresh Direct and M&J Seafood.

Nestlé to sell US confectionery business to Ferrero in US$2.8bn deal

It allows Nestlé to concentrate on a range of growth categories including bottled water, coffee, frozen meals and infant nutrition.
