Sustainable palm oil body reinstates Nestlé’s membership

17 Jul 2018 --- Three weeks after Nestlé was suspended from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) for breaching its code of conduct, the food giant has been reinstated after submitting its action plan to achieve 100 percent RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil by 2023. The reinstatement of Nestlé's certificates and membership status came yesterday (July 16) in a joint announcement from the Swiss food giant and the palm oil industry watchdog. 

Pardue Grain breaks ground on US$6.5m pulse processing facility in Montana, US

16 Jul 2018 --- Pardue Grain has broken ground on a new US$6.5 million pulse crop processing facility in Great Falls, Montana, US. The company's new 32,000 square-foot building will create a dozen jobs and expand its pulse processing operation including sorting, sizing, cleaning and bagging capabilities. Pardue's existing storage and transloading facility is located in Cut Bank, Montana. The expansion is expected to open in the fall of 2018, according to the company.

Reb M capacity increase: PureCircle expands production of its Starleaf stevia


16 Jul 2018 --- Producer of stevia sweeteners, PureCircle, has expanded its capacity to supply significantly more Reb M to global beverage and food companies. Using beverage sweetening as an equivalized example, PureCircle can now supply enough Reb M to sweeten approximately 500 million cases of zero-calorie carbonated soft drinks. The company continues to build production capacity and estimates that three years from now, it could supply enough Reb M to sweeten 1 billion cases of zero-calorie carbonated soft drinks or the equivalent in beverages and foods using Reb M as the sweetener.

Kaslink & Tetra Pak partnership: Transforming Nordic oats into plant-based dairy alternatives

16 Jul 2018 --- Barry Callebaut has released its nine-month key sales figures for the fiscal year 2017/18 which has shown good group momentum and volume growth that is significantly above the global chocolate confectionery market, according to the company. In the first nine months of fiscal year 2017/18 (ended May 31, 2018), the manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products grew its sales volume by 6.9 percent to 1,512,853 tons.

12 Jul 2018 --- US iconic ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s has come under attack from the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) which has filed suit against the Unilever-owned company over deceptive marketing allegations. The OCA is suing Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc., for what it calls the "deceptive labeling, marketing and sale of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream products." The suit was filed in D.C. Superior Court under the D.C. Consumer Protection Procedures Act.

CHS makes “great strides” to report US$229 million Q3 net income

12 Jul 2018 --- Farmer-owned cooperative and a global energy, grains and foods company, CHS Inc has reported net income of US$229.3 million for the third quarter of its 2018 fiscal year. This covers the three-month period ending May 31, 2018, and compares to a net loss of US$45.2 million for the same time period a year ago. Results for the quarter were attributed to higher operating margins in the company's Ag and Energy segments compared to previous years, primarily driven by higher margins in feed and farm supplies, crop nutrients, processing & food ingredients and refined fuels.
