The implementation of new technologies into food industry supply chains will be one of the most exciting areas to follow in 2018, with blockchain drawing the most headlines, due to its traceability advantage. Rabobank is warning companies to explore options for participating in blockchain initiatives in order to help them lower costs, increase efficiencies, offer sustainable products and explore opportunities for creating new value. Back in September, Walmart, Nestlé and Unilever were among the companies involved in a partnership with IBM aimed at adopting a blockchain solution to prevent food contamination.
