Dirty cocoa beans: fresh sustainability demands

In September, UK national newspaper The Guardian exposed what it described as “dirty cocoa” following an investigation in the Ivory Coast, where much of the world’s cocoa grows. The issue of cocoa farming continues to make international headlines as there are increasing concerns about its sustainability, environmental impact and ethical practices. In light of this, suppliers such as Olam, Cargill and Barry Callebaut claim to be working hard towards sustainable cocoa farming.
