Kerry on Christmas beverage trends for 2018: “Expect indulgence, alternative concepts & premiumization”

09 Aug 2018 --- Dessert-inspired treats, iced drinks, premium ingredients and unexpected flavors will be prominent on beverage menus across Europe this Christmas, according to research from Kerry Taste & Nutrition (Kerry). Most of Europe is still experiencing the effects of a very hot summer and heatwaves throughout, but flavor thoughts are already turning to the festive season, a crucial sales period in the beverage market. Kerry has therefore announced this year’s consumer trends, key flavors and easy-to-make concepts, based on its proprietary research tool to help customers drive footfall.

Nestlé strengthens coffee investment with Nescafé Dolce Gusto production in Vietnam

19 Jul 2018 --- Nestlé has inaugurated a new Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsule production line in Dong Nai Province, Vietnam which will ramp up processing to 2,500 tons of coffee per year (equivalent to 130 million capsules), using high-quality coffee beans from Vietnam. And over the next few years, the volume is expected to grow further. 

“Heat&Go”: SIG launches microwaveable carton for mobile drinking convenience

19 Jul 2018 ---  SIG has developed a new microwaveable aseptic carton designed specifically for on-the-go consumption of liquid dairy, non-carbonated soft drinks and broth with low viscosity products. The new “Heat&Go” pack is aluminum free and can be heated in a microwave, either in a vending machine, store, café, home or office. SIG cite the rising consumer trend for hot drinks that can be consumed on-the-go – particularly in Asia – as the inspiration behind the design.

Blockchain coffee: Token builds a “community-owned” coffee brand

26 Jun 2018 --- New coffee brand Token is using blockchain technology to directly link Western coffee drinkers with the communities that grow and roast their beans in a potentially disruptive move for the global coffee industry. An initiative by FairChain Foundation, and supported by FairChain roaster Moyee Coffee, Token is the first fully end-to-end-blockchain powered coffee brand.

The collaboration between of Conservation International, COSA, Hivos, Oxfam-Worldshops and Solidaridad says that price volatility, climate change and recurring outbreaks of pests and diseases threaten a structurally increasing global supply of good quality coffee, while consumption and, therefore, demand is expected to increase.

Banking on bottles, UK debuts recycling return scheme

29 Mar 2018 --- England will introduce a deposit return system (DRS) on all plastic, glass and metal drinks containers, the UK minister for the Environment, Michael Gove has announced. Such schemes have successfully been running in neighboring countries Germany and Sweden and Scotland announced a similar plan last year. These schemes have managed to boost collection rates for beverage packaging to over 90 percent in some states. The announcement has been met with positive feedback amid concerns over the potential costs of implementation.

Nestle Waters sells Sweet Leaf Tea and Tradewinds businesses to private equity

19 Dec 2017 --- Private equity firm Fireman Capital Partners has partnered up with Dunn’s River Brands to create a new strategic beverage platform. As part of the venture, the companies have acquired the Sweet Leaf Tea and Tradewinds businesses from Nestle Waters North America. Dunn’s River Brands said Sweet Leaf Tea and Tradewinds are expected to serve as the base for additional acquisitions of smaller high-growth brands in the fast-growing ready-to-drink tea category.

Ajinomoto enters Indian powdered drinks market

10 Aug 2017 --- Ajinomoto India Private Limited, an affiliate of Ajinomoto Co., Inc. is set to enter the powdered drinks market in India with the start of sales of Blendy 3 in 1 powdered drinks (coffee and masala chai) in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India in mid-August.

09 Mar 2017 --- In order to respond even more flexibly to customers’ wishes, SternMaid has invested in a Doypack line. From now on, the contract manufacturer and co-packing service provider will be able to pack end products in ready-made stand-up pouches with or without a zipper and three- or four-edge seal bags. Up to 40 bags per minute can be filled with dry beverage bases, superfoods, powdered dietetic drinks or products for athletes. 

Nestlé Goes it Alone with Ready-to-Drink Tea After Pulling Out of Coca-Cola Partnership

06 Mar 2017 --- Nestlé is pulling out of its ready-to-drink-tea partnership with Coca-Cola. After 15 years working as part of the Beverage Partners Worldwide (BPW) joint venture, Nestlé and Coca-Cola Company have agreed to dissolve the 50-50 venture as of January 1, 2018. 

Howard Schultz to Step Down as Starbucks CEO to Grow Premium Brand

02 Dec 2016 --- Howard Schultz, the man credited with making Starbucks a global phenomenon, is stepping down as CEO of the coffee chain to focus on Starbucks’s efforts to establish premium coffee shops. Schultz, who co-founded Starbucks, will become executive chairman of Starbucks and will now focus on building Starbuck’s high-end Reserve stores along with promoting its Roastery and Tasting Rooms as well as overseeing its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
