Independent panel advising WHO silent on sugar taxes, opinions split over levies

04 Jun 2018 ---  A new report from an independent panel advising the World Health Organization (WHO) does not endorse sugar taxes on soft drinks as a way of cutting obesity. Released last Friday in Geneva, the report entitled Time to Deliver does not specifically include a sugar tax among its recommendations to reduce non-communicable diseases (NCDs) – illness like cancer, heart conditions, breathing problems and obesity that are not caused by infections and are not passed on from person to person.

21 Nov 2017 --- With the first post-quota sugar beet campaign in full swing, Tereos has introduced what is claims is the first connected sugar beet. Developed jointly by Tereos' New Technologies team and Agronomic Department, this technology allows digging machine settings to be refined in order to maintain the quality of the harvest and therefore its preservation. FDA issues GRAS No Objection Letter for Reb D sweetener

17 Nov 2017 --- SweeGen, Inc., a nature-based sweetener company, and Ingredion have jointly announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) No Objection Letter for BESTEVIA Rebaudioside D stevia leaf sweetener for use as a general-purpose, non-nutritive sweetener for foods and beverages.
