Gelnex Announces Collagen Plant Expansion, Pioneering in Greenhouse Gas Protocol Commitment
30 Jun 2016 --- Gelnex has announced the completed expansion of its Peptinex Collagen plant in Brazil to meet the growing global demand for hydrolyzed collagen peptides. The plant’s advanced design also incorporates Gelnex’s continuous improvement in sustainability.
Alexandre Assis, Gelnex Global Sales Director told FoodIngredientsFirst: "Our investment in the new collagen plant increased our production capacity by more than 3 times, but most important is that this investment provided an increase in our capability to deliver products specifically tailored to the needs of our customers."
"The collagen market is experiencing significant growth in almost all regions, but we see the North American market as the main focus at this moment," he states.
“Gelnex has added significant production capacity while continuing to maintain a devotion to sustainability and reduction of its carbon footprint,” says Assis. “We pride ourselves on being an industry leader in implementing sustainability initiatives. In 2007, as a pioneer in its segment, Gelnex started its participation in the most globally recognized Greenhouse Gas voluntary management program, the GHG Protocol. Currently all of Gelnex's facilities are part of this program, including the new Peptinex Collagen plant. Among major global manufacturers of gelatin and collagen, Gelnex is the only manufacturer with 100% of operations falling under the GHG Protocol Program.”
Collagen is used in a large variety of products, from nutritional supplement drinks to functional health bars to vitamin gummy products, as clinical studies and testimonies have opened up the flood gates on demand for this product, Gelnex states. Many consumers now enjoy the great health effects of taking hydrolyzed collagen for hair, skin and nail health as well as muscle recovery, cardiovascular, bone and joint health. Gelnex has successfully helped leading companies develop products and product lines using Peptinex Collagen to extend these benefits to their customers.
With annual production capacity of 25,000 MT and commercial presence in over 50 countries, Gelnex is ranked among the four largest producers of gelatin and collagen peptides worldwide. 2016 marks Gelnex’s 18th year of operations, which began in 1998 with the installation of the first factory producing “Type A” gelatin in South America. Gelnex is constantly expanding production, a direct result of the proximity of manufacturing plants to the finest raw material resources in Brazil, in turn allowing for a superior quality end product with full traceability.
