UK: Mars Recalls Chocolate Amid Salmonella Scare
13 Jun 2017 --- Mars has issued a “precautionary recall” of several of its chocolate products in the UK and Ireland amid concerns over salmonella.
A company statement explains how Mars Chocolate UK and Mars Ireland are voluntarily recalling the products “due to the potential presence of Salmonella from the ingredients used in making chocolate.”
The affected products are Galaxy Milk 200g bars, Galaxy Milk 42g bars as well as multipacks, Galaxy Counters 78g treat bags and 112g pouches, and Maltesers Teasers 35g bars.
The confectionery giant stresses that the risk of salmonella affects batches of products with best before dates in May 2018 and not other Mars products.
“No other brands or varieties of chocolate, pack formats, bar sizes or best before dates are affected,” it says.
“We have detected the possible presence of Salmonella from the ingredients used in making some of our Galaxy products, including Smooth Milk Chocolate bars, Minstrels and Counters and Teasers bars, whilst carrying out our routine testing process,” continues the statement.
“A small number of these products have been distributed, and although we've had no related complaints, as a precaution we have made the decision to voluntarily recall the products potentially affected by this issue in order to ensure the safety and confidence of our consumers.”
