12 Dec 2018 --- Many developing countries are keen to use locally-grown grains for brewing instead of importing raw materials. In Sub Saharan Africa and in Latin America, affordably-priced beers made from local grains that trace their ancestry to ancient kings are particularly popular. Brewing with local grains also supports nearby farmers and the local economy. But it’s can be a challenge for brewers to optimize these grains in order to deliver a consistent product to consumers. That’s where enzyme products come in. Romeo Markovic of Novozymes discusses the rising potential for sorghum beers and the role for enzymes in this.

Optimization could include a greater focus on locally available raw materials, as pointed out on a map of the world, identifying dominant local grains.

This Novozymes technical paper presents an easy-to-implement innovation called Saphera ® Fiber, which converts lactose to dietary fiber and simultaneously reduces sugar without affecting sweetness in dairy products.

New Wave Foods completed a US$18 million Series A round to finance the rollout of plant-based shrimp and Mondelez acquired the rest of Hu Master Holdings.
30 Jan 2017 --- The biggest pasta maker in the world, Barilla, is planning a $1.9bn bid for one of the UK’s most popular cereal brands Weetabix. Weetabix, which is the UK’s second biggest cereal brand, has been courted by a number of suitors since its Chinese owner Bright Food put the brand up for sale last year. Barilla, a 140-year-old Italian family pasta business, is thought to be one of a number of bidders for Weetabix, which also includes the food brands Alpen and Weetos. Other companies mentioned are Unilever, DuPont and Lonza.
23 Jan 2017 --- Mondelez International is selling Vegemite and most of its other grocery brands in Australia and New Zealand to Australian dairy company Bega Cheese for $347m. Vegemite, a food spread made from leftover brewers’ yeast extract which is revered by its fans, is returning to the country where it was founded over ninety years ago. Other companies mentioned are Emmi, Givaudan, Arla, Novozymes and The Hain Celestial Group.
21 Nov 2016 --- Thailand's CP Foods is continuing its overseas expansion by acquiring US frozen food business Bellisio Parent for $1.08bn. CP Foods is owned by Dhanin Chearavanont, Thailand’s richest man estimated to be worth $9bn, who is looking to make CP Foods a global player and expand its food operation beyond Thailand. Other companies mentioed are Tesco, Organic Valley and Greencore.
