Cargill’s net profit rises 5 percent, reports “slightly lower” adjusted profit for food ingredients business

The only one of the privately held company’s business units to show a gain this summer was Origination & Processing, which includes the trading of grains and other commodities.

US food safety: FDA draft guidance calls for releasing retailer lists during recalls

27 Sep 2018 --- The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued new draft guidance that will help determine when it is necessary and appropriate for retailers to be publicly identified when a food recall or outbreak is underway. Agency policy has prohibited the release of such information, citing considerations for “confidential” business relationships.

Flexitarian snacking: Mora enters NPD partnership with The Vegetarian Butcher

26 Sep 2018 --- Major Dutch snack manufacturer brand Mora is joining forces with De Vegetarische Slager (The Vegetarian Butcher). The first products, including a vegetarian croquette, will be available early next year in supermarkets, company canteens, cafeterias & hospitality establishments. The distinctive feature of the vegetarian version of this iconic snack is that it’s “so close to the original, you can barely tell the difference.”

Pardue Grain breaks ground on US$6.5m pulse processing facility in Montana, US

16 Jul 2018 --- Pardue Grain has broken ground on a new US$6.5 million pulse crop processing facility in Great Falls, Montana, US. The company's new 32,000 square-foot building will create a dozen jobs and expand its pulse processing operation including sorting, sizing, cleaning and bagging capabilities. Pardue's existing storage and transloading facility is located in Cut Bank, Montana. The expansion is expected to open in the fall of 2018, according to the company.
