Blockchain and food: At the start of 2018, “blockchain” was one of the buzzwords in the industry, with the enormous hype around the benefits that this technology can offer in the food space. Early food sector adopters can undoubtedly take advantage of implementing blockchain too, particularly when it comes to traceability. Walmart, Nestlé and Unilever are among the companies that computer manufacturing company, IBM, announced will see the consortium adopt blockchain inspired solutions to prevent food contamination. Tyson Foods, Dole, Driscoll’s, Golden State Foods, Kroger, McCormick and McLane Company are also expected to work with IBM to identify new global supply chain opportunities.
