Nutrition Facts Label: US FDA proposes extending compliance dates to 2020

US President Donald Trump’s first year has been marked by a low level of success in getting policies through and food industry related moves have been relatively muted thus far too. The standout food policy story was, in fact, a delay that was welcomed by the food industry at large and criticized by consumer groups. In October, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed to delay until January 1, 2020, the deadline for companies to update their Nutrition Facts labels to more prominently display calories and total sugar content and amend serving sizes.
