Profit drop: Cargill Q2 performance impacted by trade turbulence, mixed results for ingredients businesses

04 Jan 2019 --- Agricultural commodities supplier Cargill has reported weakening Q2 results in some divisions, including food ingredients. Adjusted operating earnings were US$853 million for the fiscal 2019 second quarter and first half ended November 30, 2018, down 10 percent from the US$948 million earned in last year’s strong comparative period. This brought first-half earnings to US$1.74 billion, a 5 percent decrease from the prior year. The company reports a reliable performance in an uncertain environment, navigating volatile agricultural markets that have been disrupted by trade conflicts such as the US-China disputes.

Weekly Roundup: Mondel─ôz calls for 100 percent sustainability in palm oil sourcing

16 Nov 2018 --- This week, Mondel─ôz International has called for 100 percent sustainability in palm oil sourcing as the company challenges suppliers to act faster to eliminate deforestation. Tate & Lyle and Land O’Lakes SUSTAIN are collaborating to advance conservation practices on Midwest farms sourcing sustainable corn. Meanwhile, Azelis has extended its distribution partnership with Tate & Lyle and the new mandate will become effective as of 1 January 2019. Barry Callebaut announced that Standard & Poor’s Financial Services LLC (Standard & Poor’s) upgraded the company’s long-term issuer rating to investment grade BBB-, up from BB+.

Plant-based boost: Roquette appoints Azelis in distribution deal for European food and nutrition markets

05 Nov 2018 --- Plant-based ingredients specialist Roquette and Azelis have signed a distribution agreement for the Food and Nutrition markets. The agreement initially covers Germany, Austria and the Nordic and Baltic countries, before expanding further in the new year. The partnership – which will also include south Italy, Russia, Ukraine, and other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as of January 1, 2019 – optimizes Roquette’s global distribution network for its plant-based ingredients.
